BIMM Berlin

Scholarships & Bursaries 2015

The BIMM Group is dedicated to supporting and offering opportunities to talented and passionate aspiring musicians. Over the last year, we’re proud to have offered the equivalent of over €280,000 in scholarships and bursaries to students across our colleges in need of financial help, allowing them to make the most of their talents.

The scholarships are provided in conjunction with our high-profile music industry partners – in 2015, these were Intro Magazine, Festivalguide, JustMusic, East Side Music Days and Fritz – and show our commitment to supporting talented music students from all backgrounds. They’ll cover course fees for the full three years of a Degree (worth €7,450 per year or a total of €22,350 across three years), but do not include living expenses. Successful applicants will also be offered an internship with their sponsor or an associated industry organisation, which may include Melt! Festival, Splash Festival or interactive music TV service, Putpat TV.

Please note that scholarships and bursaries for 2016/17 courses are awaiting confirmation – the information below relates to those offered in 2015.

THE BIMM BURSARY

This year sees the launch of the new BIMM Bursary, which is available to all BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship students and is worth €1,000 per year across all three academic years of the degree. There are four in total to give away (one for each discipline – GuitarBassDrums, and Vocals) which equates to a staggering €12,000 worth of funds to talented BIMM Berlin musicians.

Two application forms are available depending on whether you are a Dependent or Independent applicant.

Independent applicants: Those who will be over 25 on the 31st August 2015 or who have been financially independent and living away from home for at least 24 months. Complete the independent form

One lucky BIMM Berlin student will be offered the chance to have their course fees paid as part of this scholarship sponsorship with JustMusic Berlin. All students starting a BIMM Berlin Degree course in 2015 can apply, as this scholarship covers the BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship (GuitarBassDrumsVocals), BA (Hons) Songwriting and BA (Hons) Music Business

EAST SIDE MUSIC DAYS SCHOLARSHIP

East Side Music Days is a free-of-charge Berlin street music festival which will be occurring between Postbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August this year. Musicians of all types can apply to perform, as long as they’re unplugged, and last year’s event saw an audience of more than 20,000 gather to watch around 100 artists play on the streets of Berlin, alongside the Berlin Wall, and on the main stage at the Spree River.

One lucky performer chosen to play at East Side Music Days will be offered the chance to become a BIMM student too – having their course fees paid for the three years of their degree for either the BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship (GuitarBassDrums,  Vocals) or BA (Hons) Songwriting.

Please note, applications to perform at East Side Music Days have now closed.

FRITZ SCHOLARSHIP

Fritz Unsigned is a radio show presented by Christoph Schrag which runs every Sunday from 5pm to 8pm on Fritz. It’s Germany’s only radio show to dedicate three hours a week to locally and nationally produced unsigned music, both by playing recordings by new artists, as well as having them perform live in the studio. Listeners are regularly encouraged to upload their own tracks via the Fritz website for inclusion on the Fritz Unsigned playlist. The show has launched the careers of many well-known German acts, including Kraftklub, Bonaparte, Mighty Oaks, and Max Prosa.

The Fritz Scholarship is available to BA (Hons) Songwriting course students who are German resident citizens. Fritz listeners/songwriters will be invited to submit a track to BIMM Berlin online, and complete a full application for both the Songwriting degree and the Scholarship.

Submissions will be open from Sunday 28th June to Sunday 12th July 2015, with the eligible applicants narrowed down to a shortlist of five shortly afterwards. The final five will have their tracks played on air, and the Scholarship winner will be selected by a panel of judges on Sunday 26th July.
