BIMM is dedicated to helping musicians and songwriters develop their skills, talents and self confidence, while gaining a nationally recognised Further or Higher Education qualification. Every academic year, we’re able to offer a limited number of scholarships and bursaries to talented and dedicated applicants and students who are in financial hardship.

These are suitable for candidates on any level of course, however, ideally for those courses incurring fees.

EMI MUSIC SOUND FOUNDATION BURSARY

(Available to current Brighton, Bristol, Manchester and London students only)

EMI Music Sound Foundation is an independent music education charity established in 1997 to celebrate the Centenary of EMI Records and to improve young peoples’ access to music education in the UK. Its patrons include Sir Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Yoko Ono and Diana Ross. Naturally, it’s a huge honour for BIMM to be chosen to receive bursary funding as part of an elite band of music education centres, which also includes The Birmingham Conservatoire and The Royal Academy of Music.

In 2015, EMI Music Sound Foundation offered an annual bursary of £10,000, this was made available to current BIMM students across BIMM colleges in the UK. The bursary amount will be split between 8-10 students who will be continuing their studies at BIMM in 2018/19.

The bursary can be put towards your course fees, or you can receive the money directly to help with your living costs while studying (the funds will be paid by the end of your first term of study).

If you’d like further information regarding the bursary, please visit: www.emimusicsoundfoundation.com

The criteria in order to be considered are as follows. You must:
• Be a current BIMM student
• Be aged between 19 and 24 on the 31st August 2018
• Be a UK national

ANDREA MARONGIU DRUMMING BURSARY

The Andrea Marongiu Bursary is for talented and dedicated drummers starting their first year of the BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship degree, who are in financial hardship. The bursary will award £1,000 for each year of study at BIMM, for three years (totaling £3,000), for two students from BIMM Brighton, BIMM London and BIMM Bristol.

This bursary is presented in memory of Andrea Marongiu – the enormously gifted session drummer of British electronic/folk band Crystal Fighters who tragically passed away suddenly in 2014. Andrea was one of the most talented multi-disciplinary drummers at work in modern music. An incredibly versatile musician, he was one of the most highly sought-after session drummers in the industry.

Andrea’s wife, Louise Marongiu, set up a fundraising site in his memory in order to raise money which could be used to help young musicians, and BIMM is hugely honoured that Louise has kindly donated the funds to form three drumming bursaries for 2018/19 entrants. This award will build on Andrea’s legacy as a brilliant and creative drummer and is an enormously generous gift to enable the growth of a new generation of drummers.

In order to be considered, you must:

• Be a UK or EU national.
• Have a household income below £25,000 per annum.
• Have good studentship (if a current student) or a good academic reference.
• Hold an Unconditional/Firm place on a Drum degree at BIMM Brighton, Bristol or London (BA (Hons)/BMus).

If your application is successful, you’ll receive the monies at the beginning of each school year.
