BARBARA BROGGINI ON MANAGING SINPLUS

Student Success

Studying for a degree can be hard work, especially with countless assignments and exams to think about. But that hasn’t stopped BIMM’s Barbara Broggini from looking after one of Europe’s hottest bands.

The second-year music business student has been totting up plenty of music industry experience after managing her famous brothers, award-winning Swiss rockers, Sinplus.

Barbara has clearly been doing something right; the band have received plenty of exposure, following a string of coveted award nominations, live shows and a new record deal – their last album was released on Rough Trade.

The ultra-talented brothers shot to fame after representing Switzerland at the 2012 Eurovision song contest in Baku, and Barbara has been on hand to take them to the top.

So, how does she balance her studies with the band’s busy schedule? Barbara, who was appointed Sinplus’ manager in 2014, said BIMM had played a useful role in her work.

“That is why I joined BIMM,” she revealed. “To learn how to do everything perfectly from industry professionals.”

Barbara has her work cut out for her this year, after the release of the band’s brilliant new single ‘Y&I’. Their new album, ‘This Is What We Are’, is also currently No 7 in the Swiss Charts.

The track features hotly-tipped singer-songwriter, Mickey Shioh, a fresh-faced twenty-something who counts Kylie Jenner, Britney Spears and J.Lo as fans. Mickey also co-wrote Janet Jackson’s brilliant 2015 comeback single ‘Night’, before attending a songwriting camp to work on Rihanna’s revered ANTI record.

Sinplus’ new smash hit has already become a massive hit in Europe, with regular airplay on MTV Germany and Czech Republic’s huge Ocko TV. This latest achievement follows an amazing couple of years for the band which saw them claim a host of awards and nominations, including an MTV gong for Best Swiss Act in 2014. The band has also performed at a number of prestigious European festivals including SasavaFest in the Czech Republic and at Open Air Gampel and the Moon & Stars festivals in Switzerland.

On top of this, the Sinplus also provided the official song for the 2016 European Gymnastics Championships in Bern.

As a result of this exposure, ‘Tieniti Forte’ went certified Gold in the band’s native Switzerland. They really do have the world at their feet, with their talented sister at the helm.

We always encourage our students to reach out and grab the opportunities that are available to them and Barbara has done just that, juggling her studies at BIMM and looking after one of Europe’s best new bands.
