Brita UT - Eternal Sun

TRACK OF THE WEEK

It’s time for our first Track of the Week in December! How it’s the last month of the year already we do not know! This week we’re featuring Brita UT from BIMM Berlin with her track ‘Eternal Sun’ – check it out!

What was the inspiration behind your track?
I’ve been thinking a lot about harmonies lately, and how to expand them and make them more complex. Through this I started investigating different choirs, specifically women’s choirs. I found this beautiful Bulgarian album Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares – recorded by Marcel Guilier – which really inspired me, so I decided to work with that.

What did your songwriting process involve?
For this track in particular, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and dive into the production aspects of the song. Experimenting with different beats and sounds led to new ways to communicate my thoughts and emotions, and I allowed myself to be swept along with this process. That is really what ended up shaping the soul, lyrics and sound diversity of this track.

What things do you do differently to other bands?
It is a solo project, so I had to familiarize myself with all aspects of production. Making music individually is always a unique process, specific to who you are. Everything (or almost everything) comes from within yourself; this makes for a very intense and beautiful way of creating.

Can you describe your sound in three words?
Beat-centric, esoteric, avant-garde.

Have you channeled any artist in particular in this track?
There is no reference track for it as I started it from scratch; however, the samples I made from the Bulgarian Female Vocal Choir give a lot of character to the song.

What is the best thing of studying at BIMM?
I decided recently to become a full-time musician, and BIMM has provided great foundations on which to build my career. Both the students and teachers are very inspiring to work with.

What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Once you decide that music is going to be your life, you need to be patient with yourself, understanding that it will evolve naturally if you work hard and allow it to grow.

What’s next for you?
At the moment I’m focused on producing more tracks to complete my first EP.
