Basement Bash is a monthly live music event for emerging Berlin-based artists to showcase their music to an eager audience of students and music industry professionals. Created by four BIMM Berlin Music Business students, it was launched thanks to a mutual realisation of a gap in the Berlin market for up-and-coming bands who wanted to play actual shows rather than open mic nights.
The first Basement Bash took place at Berlin’s IPA Bar, but pretty soon it took on a life of its own, with the second event having to be shut down due to noise levels and the team having to find a bigger venue – Marie Antoinette – by the time the fourth event came around due to its increased popularity.
Loved for its old school rock ‘n’ roll and DIY vibe, as the event has grown so have the headliners, with the UK’s The Wholls and Swedish band Ruby Empress having graced the stage, along with more than ten other bands.
But what about those four very clever BIMM Berlin students who founded the event and promote, organise and run it every month? Well… here we introduce you to Anna, Iva, Chloe and Joel – otherwise known as ‘The Bashers’!
Anna Dungal – 26 – Reykjavík, Iceland
Anna keeps Basement Bash in check and is always on top of things. After working for Iceland Airwaves music festival as a teenager, Anna moved to Berlin to intern at music agency Sound Diplomacy and has since worked at various other events, including Berlin Midsommar Festival. More recently she’s been managing fellow BIMM band Banglist and arranging the recording of their debut EP in Vienna.
Iva Misovic – 21 – Belgrade, Serbia
She may be the baby of the group, but Iva always grabs life with both hands, having previously worked for Belgrade Fashion Week and hosted her own show on MTV Adria. Iva handles the aesthetic of the Basement Bash brand, multitasking like a true millennial. Currently interning at Filter Music Group and working on her debut EP, Iva lives for concerts.
Chloe Astuc – 27 – Annecy, France
An eternal nomad, Chloe has travelled the globe like a true rock star, having lived in major cities such as New York, Paris and Sydney. Along with her two Bachelor’s degrees and two Master’s degrees, she finally settled in Berlin where she worked for the Berlin Music Video Awards (BMVAs) and contributes her knowledge of the world to Basement Bash by finding authentic bands to play at the event.
Joel – 23 – Berlin, Germany
Berlin native Joel does all the talking in the team… since he’s the only one who speaks German! A true businessman, when he’s not running around Basement Bash or on the phone, Joel runs his own company called Artist Club. He’s the perfect final addition to the already wonderfully diverse Basement Bash team.
So if you’d like to meet the four ‘Bashers’ in person, then get down to this month’s Basement Bash on Thursday 26th October at Marie Antoinette, 15-18 Holzmarktstrasse. It’s a special Halloween edition featuring the BIMM bands Gavriela, Better Strangers, Lexodus and Ritzy Park and entry is only 5 euros. See you there!
