While Sam was undertaking his Professional Project at BIMM, he found himself focusing on the ways in which commercial covers bands are booked, and ended up creating a website-based product to support this style of transaction. After graduation, he continued to work on the idea – which eventually morphed into Front of House Management and full-time jobs for both himself and his business partner.
Sam works with musicians ranging from soloists through to nine-piece bands, as well as a wide variety of specialist acts too. He and his business partner hold audition days at a selection of UK universities at the beginning of every year and have managed to secure several contract offers already for current and former BIMM students.
As a musician himself, Sam has performed on a lot on the ships and hotels he books acts for. And he’s not the only one – the company prides itself on really getting under the skin of this niche section of the industry, ensuring that all representatives from Front of House Management have had first hand experience of being a successful commercial covers artist, and will have performed on the ships or in the hotels that they’re responsible for booking. This unique insight is a winning format for all involved – as the reps can train and offer advice to acts so they are accurately targeted to their client, ensuring their booking is a success, while at the same time understanding exactly the type of act that the client is after.
For artists, working with Front Of House Management is an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between education and the professional performance world, allowing musicians to gain some valuable paid experience in the industry straight after graduation. Sam’s always keen to hear from new graduates or musicians approaching graduation at BIMM, so if you’d like to start your music career performing in the holiday industry, contact Sam today.
