Chris von Rautenkranz
Lecturer, Music Production
Chris started his career in 1982 at the age of 14, buying a Korg MS10 Synthesizer and immediately forming a pop band. In 1986 he built his first recording studio. In 1990 he merged with another studio to form Soundgarden Tonstudio located in the centre of Hamburg. There he produced famous Hamburg bands like Blumfeld, Die Sterne and Tocotronic. As an inhouse engineer, he recorded/mixed hundreds of albums for clients around the world.
In 1997 he started mastering out of a frustration about mastering results for his own productions. After successes in mastering on projects outside his studio, he decided to build a dedicated Mastering Suite inside Soundgarden.
With the breakdown of the music business in the early 2000s, he closed down his big recording studio in 2008 and built a mastering/mix suite (Soundgarden Mastering) inside Clouds Hill Recording Studios. He has mastered hundreds of albums for clients around the world, receiving several awards.
Chris likes to share his vast knowledge in music production, studio design and electronics and so joined BIMM Hamburg as a freelance lecturer in 2019.
