BIMM Institute was granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers in the UK by an Order from the Privy Council on 14th March 2019, having demonstrated that it meets the criteria to become a ‘recognised body’ for awarding degrees in the UK.

As such, BIMM Institute has overall responsibility for the academic standards and the quality of the qualifications we offer, and we are able to award our own undergraduate and Masters degrees. Our BA (Hons) Professional Musicianship and BA (Hons) Songwriting undergraduate degree courses in Berlin and Hamburg will continue to be validated by the esteemed University of Sussex – one of the Times Higher Education’s top 150 universities in the World University Rankings 2018.


To be the best it helps to learn from the best, so we host Masterclasses with some of the world’s finest musicians and music industry experts.

Industry legends including Brian May, Chuck D, Imogen Heap, Royal Blood, Nile Rodgers and Josh Hommehave graced our BIMM stages, and interacted with our students for Q&As, jam sessions, technical workshops… and even graduation ceremonies. You’ll learn from people like BIMM Hamburg Songwriting and Performance lecturer, Rick McPhail, from the band Tocotronic. Or, how about learning from Siouxsie and the Banshee’s drummer and BIMM Berlin’s Head of Live Performance, Budgie Clarke. Whether it’s industry-standard kit from brands such as Ableton, Logic Pro, Marshall, Orange and Yamaha, or top-of-the-range Mac labs, recording studios and rehearsal spaces, you’ll learn how to use our top-quality equipment like a professional.

You can also hire out our gear and facilities for your own projects – so both your coursework and your future career benefit. On top of all that, due to various collaborations with local industry partners, you’ll also have exclusive access to professional recording studios and live venues as part of your study experience.

BIMM Institute Berlin’s outstanding new facilities are based in the House of Music, in the heart of the creative hub between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Furthermore, at BIMM Institute Hamburg, we are proud to have been approved as Ableton Certified Training Center

Our Basement Bash Berlin is a great chance to show off your original material to a live audience, whileLamplight Sessions Berlin events offer singer-songwriters the possibility to showcase their tunes in an intimate environment. Our Hamburg students currently take the opportunity to perform at Bricks Beat Hamburg.

Each BIMM college hosts regular End-of-Term Gigs at the city’s best live venues, giving you the chance to shine in front of family, friends and industry professionals.
