It’s two weeks until term starts up in the UK & Berlin but happy first day back to everyone at BIMM Dublin – wishing you all an amazing year! As with every Monday, we’ve got a brilliant Track of the Week lined up – this week with Thomas Andersen from BIMM Berlin, with ‘Fools Gold’ from his recent EP ‘Drinking & Drowning‘.
What was the inspiration behind your track?
“Fool’s Gold” is fiction but the inspiration behind the track came from walking Berlin’s streets at night. A lot of sh*t goes on and it brings ideas to your head.
What did your songwriting process involve?
I started out writing the lyrics when walking the streets. Afterwards I came up with some chord-progressions and sang the lyrics over them, improvising a melody. The chorus and main hook line didn’t appear until the recordings of the track, until then the chorus had been kept instrumental.
What’s your favorite thing about studying at BIMM in Berlin?
The network at BIMM is very big which gives you many opportunities to work with others i.e. co-writing or finding someone to produce your music with.
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
Be free and don’t care what other people think. As long as it makes you happy.
What’s next for you?
I’m currently experimenting with different sounds trying to create something more personal.
