BIMM University Berlin and Hamburg’s 2021 Induction Events
After a year of online events, we were delighted to welcome a new group of students in person for our 2021 induction events. These kicked off a week of exciting Fresher’s events, where students could network, play music together and talk to their lecturers. From Open Mic Nights at Donau115 in Berlin to Hamburg’s popular Beatles Tour around St. Pauli, students were able to sign up for a variety of fun activities in their city.

This year, BIMM University Berlin Hamburg celebrated its induction event at the famous St. Pauli club Molotow. Anna Marks, College Principal, and Ciaran Bradshaw, Deputy College Principal, welcomed students to the BIMM University Berlin Hamburg community. Our new students then saw performances by second and third year students Amber & The Moon, Lauren Goodley and Feliks Divelli.
Students also met Dave Meisner, our new Events & Guests Coordinator, who introduced them to a variety of Fresher’s events. There was also Louise Macnamara, Head of Learning and Teaching, who gave insight into the BIMM University Berlin study experience, and the exclusive Masterclasses and workshops that take place during their studies. New students had the chance to speak to their fellow students and meet their lecturers.
“I’m really excited to start. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time and I am really happy to be here in Hamburg. It’s such a beautiful city and I am just getting to know it and it’s already amazing.”
– Francesca Plentinger, Vocals student from Australia
Students were also treated to an exclusive interview led by BIMM University Berlin Hamburg’s Rick McPhail. Rick interviewed Gunther Buskies from the independent label Tapete Records. Besides giving insight into what goes on at an indie label, he also shared advice on artist development and answered student questions.

With a round of applause, students greeted BIMM Berlin’s Joe Sparrow to the stage who was leading through the event. College Principal Anna Marks welcomed all new students to BIMM University Berlin:
“I think that we are going to have an amazing year! We want you to have a great time while you are here, to grow and learn in ways that you never expected, to make connections with people who will be your peers now and your colleagues in the future. I’ll say it again, look around you now, these are the people that you will spend the next three years with, create music with and maybe help shape the culture of the future. You are the next music industry practitioners: among you are future managers, artists, performers, producers, promotors, songwriters, journalist – there are so many possibilities and you will start exploring these from your first semester – there is so much opportunity to interpret the world we live in and make it want you want it to be.“
This year, BIMM University Berlin invited Berlin producer and DJ Wankelmut, best known for his hit remix ‘One Day/Reckoning Song’. He who spoke about his journey in music, what inspired him to start making music, and advice for students.
