BIMM ALUMNA BONZAI MAKES NME 100

ALUMNI

BIMM London alumna, Bonzai has been named on the NME’s list of 100 artists to look out for in 2017.

The singer-songwriter has long impressed music critics and industry tastemakers with her individual style of futuristic electronica.

As a result, she’s received praise from MTV and BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, who tipped the singer for great things in her VOGUE column.

Annie Mac has been championing Bonzai’s work for some time now, naming her single, ‘I Did’, as her ‘Hottest Record In The World’ back in September.

Bonzai also counts in-demand producer, Mura Masa (Alex Crossan) as a close friend, having collaborated with him on several tracks including the outstanding ‘Lovesick F***’. The two even performed together last year live on BBC Radio 1, after Mura was awarded the fifth place in the BBC’s Sound of 2016 poll.

Earlier this year, Bonzai was chosen to support Aussie electronic visionary, Flume on his European tour. The shows saw her play in front of thousands at some of the continent’s best venues.

Three spectacular EPs later and the music world is very excited about Bonzai. The Dublin-born singer’s name has been dropped alongside FKA Twigs, Missy Elliott, M.I.A. and Björk. That said, Bonzai’s music and style remain unique.

“My music isn’t really like anything else – it might have elements of M.I.A. or Missy Elliott or something, but I don’t really feel I’m like anyone else. I’m just doing what interests me, and I hope people get that,” she told NME.

As for what to expect in 2017, Bonzai says her main ambition is to release an album next year.

“I’m going to put a lot of time into it. There’ll definitely be a few different elements in it, but the goal is to tie them in nicely together,” she revealed.

Bonzai left Dublin for London at the tender age of 17 and joined BIMM soon after. She adds to our illustrious list of success stories.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented star!
