The next BIMM Hamburg Open Day on Saturday 23rd June is primed to be a memorable one. We’ve partnered with Hurricane Festival to offer Open Day attendees a one-off opportunity for a backstage tour of the festival, held between Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th June at the Eichenring in Scheeßel, about an hour from Hamburg. Or for those who prefer to stay local, you can choose instead to tour Clouds Hill Recordings – the renowned fully analogue recording studio owned by BIMM Hamburg’s Head of Production, Johann Scheerer, and the venue for BIMM Hamburg’s Music Production classes.
The BIMM Hamburg Open Day itself will take place at 11am at music venue Nochtspeicher (Bernhard-Nocht Straße, 69a, 20359 Hamburg) and will include a presentation about life at BIMM Hamburg and our music degree and diploma courses; information on how to apply, the assessment process, fees and accommodation; a Q&A session with BIMM tutors, students, staff and guests; plus live music from BIMM band Me & The Monster.
Attendees will then select to go on either Tour 1 (Hurricane Festival) or Tour 2 (Cloud Hill Recordings). Those who choose Tour 1 will depart Nochtspeicher at 1.30pm and will be transported to the Hurricane Festival, where they’ll be shown around by the festival’s CEO, Stephan Thanscheidt, and will take part in a Q&A session, before returning to Nochtspeicher for 4pm.
Hurricane is an alternative music festival which has been running at the Eichenring motorcycle racetrack in Scheeßel since 1997. It’s twinned with the Southside Festival in Germany’s south at Neuhausen ob Eck which launched in 1999. Both festivals share the same line-up across the same three days and attract over 130,000 visitors each year from all over Europe. The festivals have their own radio stations which run all year round, as well as broadcasting live from the festival grounds. Past bands and artists who’ve graced the Hurricane and Southside stages include Oasis, INXS, Florence and the Machine, Blur, Royal Blood, Sonic Youth, Lily Allen, Massive Attack, Kasabian, Muse, The Cure, New Order and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
This year’s festival is sure to be one of the best yet, with music from Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, The Prodigy, Chvrches, and BIMM alumni including James Bay, The Kooks, George Ezra and Two Door Cinema Club (alumni Ben Thompson).
BIMM Hamburg Open Day attendees who choose Tour 2 will make their way to Clouds Hill Recordings (Billwerder Neuer Deich 72, 20539 Hamburg) for 2pm. Here they’ll be shown around the teaching venue by in-house engineers and BIMM Hamburg tutors until 3pm, and will see where celebrated musicians such as The Killers, Peter Doherty, Turbostaat and Tim Bendzko have worked their musical magic.
Places for the BIMM Hamburg Open Day tours are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please book by clicking here, and we will be in touch to confirm your place.
