Earlier this year, BIMM returned to the Liverpool Sound City festival for the third year. The two-day event was a massive success and our acts really stole the show at the ‘BIMM Presents’ showcase on The Cavern Stage. In fact, one band impressed so much they’ve been booked for another huge festival in South Korea!

That’s right, BIMM Brighton rockers, Atlas Wynd will play two of their biggest shows to date when they perform in front of hundreds of music fans at the Zandari Festa in Seoul. The festival, which forms part of the Sound City Korea series, has been dubbed the country’s largest music showcase festival. The event will also be the band’s first international gig.

The raucous garage rock duo have been praised for their energetic live shows and dark sound, which we’re sure will go down particularly well with South Korea’s hardcore army of rock and rollers. Following the announcement, we caught up with Atlas Wynd’s Peter Chapman (Vocals & Guitar) and Harry Sotnick (Drums) to get their thoughts on playing the festival:

“We’ve never been to Asia before so we’re really looking forward to seeing what it’s like and experiencing it all! The fact it’s even happening is absolutely mad,” they told BIMM.

BIMM’s Artist Promotion & Festival Manager, Suzi Ireland also congratulated the band, adding: “After a raucous set at this year’s Liverpool Sound City, Atlas Wynd were selected from a huge list of bands to head out to Sound City Korea this September to perform twice at Zandari Festival. The band have hit the festival circuit hard this summer, smashing their sets at the Great Escape, Truck, YNOT and soon at Together the People in Brighton alongside Brian Wilson and Suede. As such a hardworking band, they fully deserve this opportunity, and with their new single ‘I’ve Had Enough’ making waves on music blogs across the UK, these gigs could not be more well-timed!”

Atlas Wynd are originally from the North East of England. They’ve quickly gained a reputation on Brighton’s music scene, after moving here to study at BIMM. Numerous gigs, festival appearances and regular radio play on BBC Introducing have all played a huge part in their rapid rise.

The music press is also keeping a close eye on the band and ‘I’ve Had Enough’ has received plenty of positive feedback. The song premiered on CLASH magazine last month, with an accompanying feature that praised group’s “spine-shattering” sound, even comparing them to such rock gods as Royal Blood and Queens Of The Stone Age!

Atlas Wynd have been handed the opportunity of a lifetime. Playing Asia is the sort of thing new bands dream; it really is a landmark moment in any musician. We’ve no doubt the lads will rise to the occasion and give it everything they’ve got, as they did in Liverpool!

Can’t make it to Seoul? Atlas Wynd are also due to support The Computers later this year on their UK tour; you’ll find tour dates on the band’s Facebook page. In the meantime, you can listen to Atlas Wynd’s fantastic new single, ‘I’ve Had Enough’.
