It’s Monday, and we may have had week off (sorry!) – but Track of the Week is back! Check out the latest release from BIMM Berlin’s MAKENZIE!
What was the inspiration behind your track?
I just wanted to be as vulnerable as possible about a little darker side of romance in my life, so out came addiction.
What did your song writing process involve?
As soon as I heard the beat from Jan, I immediately knew what situation in my life I wanted to talk. ‘Requiem For A Dream’ came to mind as a good way to relate that feeling I had, so boom there you had the idea of addiction.
What things do you do differently to other bands?
At this point, I would say everything is very digital and I explore through hip-hop. I don’t stick to one sound. I’m not just alternative or trap or golden age artist. I guess you could say I’m ‘genre-less’ if that makes sense.
Can you describe your sound in three words?
Hope, Dark. Reminiscent.
Have you channelled any artist in particular on this track?
No, not really. I want the songs to be as personal to me as possible.
What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?
Hands on learning.
What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
“People may not know what you did, but they can feel it.” – Pete smith
What’s next for you?
Right now I’m really in a good space and I think everything will come when it’s suppose too. So, I just want to keep putting out music and doing shows because I’m sure somebody special is watching or somebody will be and I just want to make sure they see the magic to everything I’m doing.
