Fontaines D.C.

Artist

Shortly after graduating from BIMM University Berlin Dublin, Fontaines D.C. signed with the highly revered Partisan Records alongside IDLES, Cigarettes After Sex, Laura Marling, Chubby and the Gang and many more.

In 2018, the band stepped into Steve Lamacq’s shoes to present his 6 Music Recommends show on BBC Radio 6 and received support from numerous other industry tastemakers and press outlets such as magazines DIY, Dork and So Young.

On the road, the band supported Shame on their UK and Irish tour in 2019 and took on America with Bristol quintet IDLES in spring of 2019 before performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas and performing a series of blisteringly good sets at Glastonbury Festival.

The band’s debut LP Dogrel was released to critical acclaim in April of 2019, reaching no.4 in the Irish album chart and no.9 in the UK. The record received a nomination for the highly coveted Mercury Music Prize. It triumphed later that year when it was selected as Album Of The Year by Rough Trade and BBC6 Music.

After being nominated for NME’s Best New Act in the World, they released their second studio album, A Hero’s Death, via Partisan Records. It entered the UK and Irish album charts at no.2. Pitchfork described the album as “heady, funny and fearless” and scored it a very respectful 8.1/10. It has since been nominated for Best Rock Album and a Grammy, perhaps the biggest accolade a band could ever receive.

The band’s third studio album, Skinty Fia, was released in April 2022 via Partisan Records. The album’s title refers to an old Irish saying often voiced by drummer Tom Coll’s great aunt. The phrase ‘Skinty Fia’ translates to ‘the damnation of the deer’. Both the title and the cover art allude to the extinct Irish elk, also known as the ‘giant deer’.

Following the album’s release, the band received NME’s coveted Best Band in the World Award.

Skinty Fia became the band’s first no.1 album in Ireland and the UK and received a respectable 8/10 from Pitchfork.
