Dr Nick Donovan

College Principal - BIMM Germany

Dr Nick Donovan is College Principal of BIMM Germany and received his PhD in Music Composition and Interactive arts.

 Nick joined the BIMM group in 2013, and has successfully helped to launch three new BIMM colleges. An experienced academic and commercial manager, he has assumed a number of leadership roles at BIMM, including Head of Education at BIMM Manchester, and now BIMM Germany College Principal, where he oversees both BIMM Berlin and BIMM Hamburg.

Prior to joining BIMM, Nick worked as an undergraduate lecturer in the Department of Contemporary Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, lecturing in critical theory and popular music discourse.

His PhD thesis entitled Composing Interactions Within Sound and Image in Digital Technologies led him to work with global, groundbreaking initiatives such as The Large Hadron Sound Collider application for Mac and Wii remote, which was developed as part of a project funded by CERN in association with the LHCSound project. 

Nick is also an experienced composer and musician. He produces and records under the name DEADBEAR, and his recent work includes electronica releases on Cascine and Art Is Hard records, with festival appearances across Europe. Nick has composed with the innovative ‘laptop orchestra’ and made scoring and programming contributions to internationally renowned contemporary theatre companies, including Proto-type Theatre’s The Good, the God and the Guillotine, which was funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
