Maya is a Berlin-based composer, sound artist, and guitarist. Her works span from electro-acoustic compositions, sound installations and ensemble pieces to performing as a classical, experimental and rock guitarist. In her practice, Shenfeld explores the intersection between modes of musical production used in experimental and popular music. Her interests lie in the embodiment of the listening experience, researching temporality, deep listening, just intonation, and microtonality.
Shenfeld’s works have been presented internationally, most recently in the Centrala Art Gallery (Birmingham, UK), Kunst Werke, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Ableton Loop Festival, Klangwerkstatt Festival for Neue Musik (Berlin), and the North-Western University, Chicago.
As a guitarist, Shenfeld performed in numerous renowned concert halls, among them the Tel-Aviv Museum of the Arts, the Konzerthaus, Neuköllner Oper, and Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
Shenfeld is a graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and the University of the Arts (UdK) Berlin, where she completed an MA in classical guitar and contemporary music composition. She is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship, the DAAD scholarship, a special grant from the University of the Arts Berlin.
