Black Honey are a British four-piece indie rock band who formed at BIMM Institute Brighton. The band comprises lead singer and guitarist Izzy Baxter Phillips, guitarist Chris Ostler, bassist Tommy Taylor, and drummer Alex Woodward. In their early years, their signature guitar sound – which evokes spaghetti westerns, Tarantino movies, and Twin Peaks- type connotations – partly defined the band. Although their sound has developed massively, this sound is still very much present in their music. The band has been on several UK tours, including support slots for Catfish and the Bottlemen, Royal Blood, and their own UK headline tour. 'Black Honey', their self-titled debut album, entered the top 40 in its first week of release; as well as seeing the group front the cover of NME magazine. With their sophomore album 'Written and Directed', the band stormed the charts and secured the No. 7 spot in the UK Official Albums Chart. Not only that, but they also secured the No.1 spot in the Independent Artists chart; a significant accolade for any independent band. NME and DIY Magazine gave Written and Directed 4/5 stars. The album has received widespread praise for its unapologetic and often cinematic sound. Izzy B Phillips puts her voice to good use, mixing empowering anthems and attitude-filled themes, often aiming to tear down the patriarchy and more.
