Maria Torres
Music Business
Maria Torres graduated from BIMM University Berlin Bristol in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Business.
After graduating, Maria secured a job as a management assistant at an esteemed music management company in London, assisting with a range of artists. Following this, she joined the Verdigris Management team, where Maria managed her own artists and built her roster.
Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maria lost her job in early 2020. However, her hard work independently managing artist Sinead O’Brien led to Sinead being signed to independent label Chess Club Records for a single and EP deal.
Since then, Maria has built a fantastic team around Sinead O’Brien, and they’re currently planning the next stages of releases.
Maria continues to build her own management roster independently, specialising in female-fronted groups. She aims to ensure that women in the music industry are supported and given a platform to develop artistically and creatively. During the lockdown, she took on Bristol female punk trio Grandmas House, whose eponymous debut EP led to them being called “The best band to come out of Bristol since IDLES.”
Maria has now started her own management company, Sakura Artists, which currently looks after Sinead O’Brien, Grandma’s House and Keaton Dekker and more recently became artist manager at the very reputable Mother Artists.
Maria had this to say about her time at BIMM University Berlin Bristol:
“BIMM provided me with the foundations to build a music management career by covering all areas of the industry, whether that be tour budgeting or live show setups. This knowledge allowed me to take the leap and start managing my own artists.”
“I really enjoy working in Artist Management as you face a new learning curve every day, which allows me to develop personally and professionally throughout my career. Also, I really enjoy planning an artist’s timeline; seeing the success and results is always so rewarding.”
