MA Cinematography

Sidharth Harikumar is a South Indian director and cinematographer, and a finalist at the 2025 Student Academy Awards (Student Oscars). Originally trained in Biotechnology, he later pursued cinema professionally, earning Master’s degrees in Directing from London (2016), and Cinematography from MetFilm School Berlin (2024).

His work is rooted in intimate and emotionally driven storytelling, often exploring themes of trauma, identity, memory, and silence. His latest short film, Vasu (2025), which he wrote, directed, and shot, is a psychological drama examining generational stoicism and the lingering psychological burden carried by a retired police officer. The film was selected as the sole Indian entry at the 2025 Student Academy Awards and was also screened at the 48th Moscow International Film Festival as part of its international competition programme. Vasu is currently continuing its festival run.

His earlier short film, Saffron Ash (2017), screened at over 25 international film festivals and received multiple awards. Alongside his directorial work, Sidharth has worked as a cinematographer across short films, music videos, and commercial projects in Berlin and London.

Influenced by both European and South Indian cinematic traditions, his filmmaking is driven by visual restraint, atmosphere, and emotional precision. Through his work, he seeks to portray deeply personal human experiences while remaining closely connected to the culture, landscapes, and social realities of the place he comes from. He is currently working on his debut feature film as writer and director.
