The Kooks

Multimillion-selling indie-poppers The Kooks began as students at BIMM, forming as a band in 2002 in Brighton. They’re undoubtedly one of the most recognisable names in Indie Pop/Rock of the last decade.

Influenced primarily by the sound of the 60s, British invasion, as well as post-punk revival, although they are known to draw influence from different areas including, rock, pop, britpop, reggae, ska and even funk and hip hop.

The band signed to Virgin Records just three months after forming and broke into the musical mainstream with their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out. The album is certified as four-times platinum in the UK, and its follow-up, 2008’s ‘Konk’, went straight into the domestic charts at No. 1, while album three, ‘Junk Of The Heart’, went Top 10 in 2011.

Their most recent album Let’s Go Sunshine was released on 2 September 2018 and peaked at No.9 on the UK Albums Chart.

Their influence on UK music has been really important.
