Victory for Germany in the BIMM World Cup 2023
On 30th May 2023, a group of hopeful students from BIMM Berlin made their way from Germany across the sea to London, to participate in the second edition of the BIMM World Cup. Confident in their abilities and the team they had built, all that stood between them and glory was 7 games against the best teams the UK BIMM University group could assemble.
Organised by the student services team and the newly formed BIMM Football Society, the team had been elected from a pool of students across all years and disciplines of BIMM in Berlin. Upon arrival in London the team were welcomed to BIMM London by principal Simon Colam and treated to a masterclass with Music Business lecturer Ben Jones to discuss the local music scenes in UK and Germany.
Once the formalities had been seen to, all thoughts centred around the tournament. Hosted at Goals Wimbledon on 31st May, BIMM Germany secured wins against Screen and Film School, and BIMM Brighton and Birmingham to progress to the final. The final was a tense affair against BIMM Birmingham, in which Germany’s keeper, Bo Valtanen, was stretchered off after just 5 minutes. However, the tide soon turned and BIMM Berlin’s valiant team stormed to victory 3-1.
Winning on a pitch appropriately named “Wembley”, the team from Germany decked out in retro kits collected their gold medals and lifted the trophy to declare that football was indeed, coming nach Hause.
