Two student projects selected for Berlin Short Film Festival
The projects of two students from our BA (Hons) Filmmaking programme have had their films selected for the upcoming Berlin Short Film Festival.
The festival, which is now celebrating its 14. year, will take place in the iconic Berlin cinema, Babylon. A unique platform for new talent, the festival has firmly marked itself as a leading short film festival for international filmmakers.
Two incredible small-budget shorts
Finalists Daria Kostina and Miklós Molnár and were the two students that directed the selected films, titled Still Life and This is Not a Metaphor for Alcoholism. The films will form part of a programme of over thirty different shorts, screened over two days.
“The fact that I will be able to view my project in a cinema of different people is super exciting. While I love films in any setting, they’re always best shared.”
Miklós Molnár, BA (Hons) Filmmaking
Alongside their directorial work, Miklós and Daria are two of three co-founders of Crashers Collective, a Berlin-based indie production company run together with fellow filmmaking finalist Erwin Swieszek.
For Erwin, this marks an important moment in the evolution of Crashers Collective:
“We are super happy to see the projects we love dearly get some recognition on our first festival run. It just makes us more excited to continue making movies, and share them with those who are excited enough about the stories we want to make.”
With each film made on a small budget (Still Life was made with a budget of just €60), this achievement highlights the potential of both filmmakers. Course Leader Nathaniel Fregoso also highlights this:
“We are incredibly proud of Miki and Dasha for having their films selected for the Berlin Short Film Festival! For young filmmakers, it’s essential that they are able to share their unique perspectives and stories with the world. Being selected for the festival is a testament to their talent, dedication and hard work.
Congratulations again to Miklós and Daria – we can’t wait to see what you do next!”
On behalf of the team at MetFilm School and the wider BIMM University Berlin family, we’d love to congratulate Miklós and Daria on being selected for Berlin Short Film Festival.
