Scholarships and Bursaries

At BIMM Institute, we’re committed to supporting you in achieving your dream music career, no matter your background or financial situation. So, each academic year, we offer a limited number of scholarships and bursaries to talented, dedicated applicants and students. 

We remove the financial barriers so you can develop your skills and self-confidence and find your place within the industry. Our scholarships and bursaries at BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg provide incredible opportunities for those eligible for EU tuition fees.

BIMM Institute Berlin has established an amazing scholarship with our partner Music Pool Berlin, dedicated to supporting one student with EU fee eligibility throughout their studies.

The successful applicant will receive a 50% discount off their total undergraduate study fees, for all three years of study from September 2021. It doesn’t matter which course you have chosen – this scholarship is available for all degree course study areas. It’s part of our dedication to seeing you kick-start your industry career in the strongest way possible.

We will then follow your journey during your studies as you develop your craft, explore your creativity, and follow your passion. As a Scholarship winner, you will have access to the many opportunities that Music Pool Berlin offers.

Music Pool Berlin is a central contact point for all musicians and music professionals in Berlin. It offers a broad range of consultations, advanced training , and networking possibilities for aspiring musicians and music professionals. You will have access to Music Pool Berlin’s wide range of workshops and networking opportunities. Plus, each semester, you’ll have a 1-2-1 consultation session with one of Music Pool’s expert staff members. You will get exclusive behind-the-scenes insight by being involved in networking events, artist meet-ups, and B2B workshops.

Are you eligible to apply for the Music Pool Berlin Scholarship?

You’re eligible to apply for our scholarship if you have applied to BIMM Institute Berlin for September 2021 and are entitled to the EU fees of €7,950 – providing you meet our application criteria below.

The scholarship is open to all applicants from all undergraduate degree study areas at BIMM Institute. These are:

  • BA (Hons) Music Business
  • BA (Hons) Music Production
  • BMus (Hons) Songwriting
  • BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance (Guitar, Vocals, Bass and Drums)

Not yet applied to join in September 2021?

Don’t worry if you’ve not yet applied to study with us in September 2021; there’s still time. However, please be advised that your scholarship application will not be considered if you haven’t applied and received an offer of study from us by the deadline of 23:59 CEST 26th July 2021.

We highly recommend submitting your completed application to study at BIMM Institute Berlin as soon as possible. This gives both you as an applicant and our Admissions Team the chance to sail through our application process as quickly as we can. The application process includes:

  • Successful completion of an audition/interview for your chosen discipline
  • Receiving an offer of study from our Admissions Team detailing any further academic or English language requirements

How to apply for the Music Pool Berlin Scholarship

To complete your Music Pool Berlin Scholarship application, please follow the steps below and return the 2021/22 Scholarship Application Form by 23:59 CEST on 26th July 2021.

Essay Criteria

Applicants wishing to apply for the scholarship must submit an essay with a limit of 1,500 words, which will be reviewed by our academic staff and a Music Pool industry panel. In order to be considered for the scholarship, you must meet the deadline for submission, which is 23:59 CEST 26th of July. If successful, you will be notified in writing after the decision date of 2nd August.

The essay needs to be in the English language, limited to 1,500 words, and should cover the following subject:

What experience do you have engaging with the music industry/creative arts to date?

Please include any kind of evidence of your work supporting your essay e.g., links to social media around releases/demos/events/videos you have created, stream of a show/blogs you have written, articles you have published, mood boards/websites you have designed, press releases/EPKs you have created, references from placements or internships.

Note: These should be included as appendices and are not included in your 1,500-word limit.

  • What are your current career aspirations for when you graduate from BIMM Institute?
  • How do you see a scholarship with Music Pool Berlin having a positive impact on these aspirations? How would you make the most of the support from Music Pool Berlin during your studies?

This essay must be uploaded as a PDF attachment when completing the Scholarship Application Form and submitted on or before the deadline of 23:59 CEST on 26th July.

Please clearly title your essay submission: ‘Music Pool Berlin Scholarship BIMM Institute Berlin [First Name/ Last Name]’.

What happens next?

We will record your Scholarship Application and review all submissions after the deadline of 23:59 CEST 26th July 2021. This will be reviewed by a panel of BIMM Institute staff, and the shortlist decided by our network of industry partners. All successful applicants will be notified in writing by 2nd August 2021.

Terms and Conditions of Scholarship Payment

  • Before the 50% fee discount is awarded to your tuition fees, your study offer must be accepted and the deposit for your course to have been paid in full by the deposit deadline of 31st August 2021
  • Your tuition fees will be updated with a 50% discount. Your tuition fees will either be due for payment in full on 15th September 2021 or in 10x monthly instalments as agreed with BIMM Institute’s Finance Team
  • In the event of withdrawal before the end of Week 5 in Semester 1, the bursary/scholarship amount will be deducted from any agreed fee refund
  • If you withdraw from your studies from Week 6 in Semester 1, your full tuition fees will be due as outlined in your study Terms & Conditions
  • The scholarship winner agrees to be part of a marketing campaign (blog posts, social media, interviews) throughout the time of studies at BIMM Institute Berlin
  • In the instance of the scholarship winner not accepting their place of study at BIMM Institute, the scholarship will then be offered to a runner-up (decided by Music Pool Berlin and BIMM Institute’s industry team)
  • The Music Pool Berlin Scholarship is only applicable for entry in September 2021. If you decline or defer your place to September 2022 entry or later, you cannot carry the scholarship over and it will be offered to a runner-up
  • If you decide to defer your entry to a later academic year, you are welcome to re-apply for a new bursary or scholarship initiative applicable to that year of entry
  • If you are awarded the Scholarship and then wish to change your college of study and retain your annual scholarship fee discount, this is limited to BIMM Institute Hamburg. This is due to the tuition fee structure at BIMM Institute Hamburg being the same as BIMM Institute Berlin
  • If you decide to transfer to a BIMM Institute college located in the UK or Ireland, the Scholarship award will be waived and you will be expected to pay the full annual tuition fees in these locations

The Scholarship will be awarded in the following format

  • The 50% scholarship will apply to each year of your BIMM Institute tuition fees, minus your €500 deposit. The scholarship value is, therefore, €3,725 per year
  • The value of the scholarship will not be paid to you directly but deducted from each year’s total tuition fees

At BIMM Institute Hamburg we will offer four bursaries to EU and UK students. These bursaries are each worth a total of €3,000 and apply to the length of your undergraduate course. This means that €1,000 will be deducted from your study fees for each year that you study with us.

Every applicant eligible for EU fees can apply for our bursary, and it covers all undergraduate study areas:

  • Your total annual fees will therefore be €6,950 minus the €1,000 bursary amount
  • The bursary value will not be paid to you directly but deducted from each year’s total tuition fees
