BIMM Berlin’s New Home in Renowned Creative Hub

25 February, 2019

We are delighted and excited to announce that BIMM Berlin – now has a brand new home. Situated in the R.A.W. area between Warschauer Str. and Ostkreuz, the refurbished House of Music building is at the intersection of Berlin’s two most creative districts, Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, and will be opening in 2019 for our students to enjoy.

The new setting is a short eight-minute walk from our current home, and comes with incredible facilities available within the House of Music – Berlin’s new creative hub and hotspot for the city’s creatives. Here, BIMM will share space with other prominent music industry companies, such as Berlin’s leading consultation office for freelance musicians, Music Pool Berlin, and a range of music management, consulting, media and events agencies, as well as developers and producers of music equipment.

The R.A.W. site offers approximately 70,000m2 of space for culture, leisure and music. Within this vibrant area, the House of Music will soon open its doors to a new community. It is one of R.A.W.’s biggest and oldest remaining industrial buildings, having been constructed in the mid-19th century as a railway premises where its 8-metre-high ceilings were used for train maintenance.

BIMM has made a major investment in our new home and our position in the building includes over 2,000m2 of space spread across two floors and will contain two recording studios, several Mac labs, two huge live performance spaces, tutorial rooms, a community networking space, and a multitude of teaching and tutorial rooms. Students will also have access to more than 20 professional rehearsal rooms courtesy of our noisy Rooms partners and a small public live stage on the ground floor of the House of Music for amazing live sessions. The spaces will contain a huge selection of high-tech equipment, including instruments and backline PA from some of the best brands in music, and industry-standard production software and hardware.

The whole historic three-story building has recently had a complete renovation from a derelict shell to a prestigious and state of the art facility. It was entirely gutted, leaving only the outer walls standing, and was then rebuilt floor-by-floor from the inside as a specialist centre for the music industry and education. The building’s floor space had to be lowered by half a metre so sound insulation measures for rehearsal rooms, studios and performance stages could be properly fitted.  The whole project has taken over a year – but the result is well worth the wait!

Our current neighbours and music partners, noisy Musicworld, will also be moving with us, meaning our students can continue to benefit from our ties with noisy Academy, noisy Rooms, noisy Live, noisy Roads and Jam School. BIMM Berlin’s other new musical neighbours include the Busy Beats music team building company, music network and community Music Pool Berlin, art gallery Urban Spree, and live music venues AstraCassiopeia and Badehaus. The area also features a skate hall, climbing gym and boulder hall as well as many of Berlin’s coolest cafes and bars.

Our new location in the city’s only dedicated music complex is expected to see a daily flow of between 600 and 1,000 people, with this number made up almost entirely of those from the music industry. This represents an incredible opportunity for our students to network with other members of Berlin’s creative community, which will undoubtedly have a hugely positive impact on their creative output, collaborative relationships and future careers.
