From music student to graduate: BIMM University Berlin’s 2023 graduation
Graduates, family and friends gathered together in Heimathafen’s performance space for a celebration worthy of their incredible work.
Throughout the ceremony, we enjoyed stunning performances from a selection of this year’s graduating cohort, including Flavia Rothe, Kai Wolf and Kathlen Morrison.
As is tradition at our music graduation ceremony, we also enjoyed an incredible interview with an industry guest. This year, Music Business course leader Andy Zammit interviewed award-winning Danish singer-songwriter Agnes Obel.
Agnes’ music has featured on soundtracks for hit TV series such as Dark, Lovesick, Euphoria, and The Last of Us, as well as the video game Dark Souls III.
“My advice [to graduates] is to believe in your own unique voice, and that you can also do a lot yourself. You don’t necessarily need big, famous songwriters or producers to bring your vision to life. The most interesting part of what you do is you, so trust in that.”
The ceremony also featured many memorable speeches from BIMM University’s academic team.
“As you step into the next chapter of your lives, carry the spirit of transformation with you. Be ambassadors of positive change, using your talents not only to entertain but to enlighten and uplift. Remember that education is a lifelong journey, and the quest for knowledge should be relentless.”
Luisa Lerma, Head of School: Music
Then, it came to the moment our grads were waiting for: the conferral of their degrees. One by one, they took to the stage to officially mark their success as graduates.
Following the afternoon’s excitement, we turned our attention to the evening’s programme: the Graduation Bash. Featuring an all-grad line-up, their performances were a true testament to their calibre as music industry professionals.
Performers included: Ingri, Joby, Kathi, Sofia Catania, Loulia, Waifish, half of a rainbow, Skin on Flesh, Matching Drapes, June, and Victor Bouvier (DJ).
“It fills us with great joy to know that we have been able to accompany these young, talented creatives from all over the world during their studies. We have provided them with the necessary contacts, knowledge and inspiration to prepare them for the fascinating journey of their creative careers. We look forward to hearing success stories, musical releases and more news about the professional development of our graduates soon.”
Robert Witoschek, International Campus Dean
Once again, we’d like to warmly congratulate our graduates on their achievements. We can’t wait to see how this cohort shapes the music industry going forwards.
