Madame Gandhi gives 1:1 mentoring sessions to music students
This week, legendary musician and activist Madame Gandhi visited BIMM University Berlin to deliver exclusive career and personal mentoring sessions.
An award-winning artist, producer, and activist, she is known for her percussive electronic music and powerful message of personal agency. A former drummer for M.I.A., she has been recognized as a TED Fellow, Forbes 30 Under 30 in Music, and BBC 100 Women, and uses her work to champion gender equity, sustainability, and creative independence.

“I think we have to break rules all the time. I think we can follow the rules to learn how to navigate the very difficult music industry we are in. But it’s those who break the rules, see things differently, and trust their instinct that are the radical change makers that create sustainability and growth for our industry.”
– Kiran “Madame” Gandhi, speaking to BIMM Berlin.
Offered in a limited capacity to four lucky students, she spent 30 minutes with each participant guiding them through personal and career challenges like creative entrepreneurship, merging creative disciplines, exploring new creative lanes, and using music as a vehicle for activism.
While visiting Berlin from London, she also took participants outside to explore the city surrounding the BIMM campus, before concluding her visit by joining the premiere of the Sofa Sessions – an intimate, cross-faculty video series produced by our music and film students.
“I feel very inspired by the students I met here today at BIMM. Pretty much all of them want to make the world a better place with their music”
