BIMM University Berlin students and graduates shine at DOK Leipzig
Students and graduates from MetFilm School Berlin’s MA Documentary & Factual course recently took part in DOK Leipzig, one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals for documentary and animation film. Founded in 1955, DOK Leipzig is renowned for celebrating bold storytelling as well as fostering new talent, making it a key destination for our emerging filmmakers.
Postgraduate Course Leader Silke Ewald was joined by lecturer Jide Tom Akinleminu, as well as several current students and graduates: Carmina Orozco López, Amrutha Anilkumar, Francisca Sanches, Daria Altukhova, and Ilana Diamant.
The visit proved valuable for both students and graduates, who used the opportunity to connect with filmmakers, funders, and festival programmers. Notably, Silke met Julia Weigl, Director of Filmfest München and Chairwoman of AG Filmfestival, who invited our students to the upcoming Festival of Future Storytellers in Munich later this month.
The BIMM University Berlin community was also represented behind the scenes. Graduate Carmina Orozco López now works as part of the DOK Leipzig industry team, while others continue to collaborate on new projects developed during their time at the school.
For our current MA Documentary & Factual students, the festival offered a perfect introduction to the professional documentary world, combining screenings, pitches, and panels that will directly inform their upcoming coursework and creative journeys.
