Germany’s games industry is booming – want to be a part of it?

21 August, 2025

Could it be the perfect time to start your games career in Germany? According to the stats: yes. In the first half of 2025, the German games market grew by 4% and generated an impressive €4.6 billion in revenue.

The figures, released this August by Gamescom (co-organiser of the German Games Industry Association), show strength in the sector, especially when it comes to hardware. Thanks to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, sales in this area jumped by 17%, reversing the 8% decline seen last year. Online gaming services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass also continued their steady climb, up 4% year-on-year.

While revenue from games themselves dipped slightly (down 2%), the drop is half the rate of 2024, pointing to a stabilising market.

But the numbers only tell half of the story. The appetite for games in Germany is clear, as two in three people now consider gaming “the entertainment of our age,” and one in four are actively interested in handheld consoles.

“This growth sends a powerful signal for the start of Gamescom,” said Felix Falk, Managing Director of game (The German Games Industry Association), who also noted record-breaking exhibitor numbers at this year’s event.

For students and aspiring professionals, the message is simple: there’s never been a better time to get involved in the games industry. From blockbuster hardware launches to the rise of online services, opportunities are growing across every part of the sector, both in Germany and internationally.
