MA Music for Film, Games and Media
The MA Music for Film, Games and Media develops the craft and workflow of screen composition and sound design for film, television, games and digital platforms.
Designed with input from working professionals, it combines studio practice with critical reflection so you can deliver to brief, collaborate effectively and meet industry expectations.
You will compose narrative-led music, design sound, and build skills in synchronisation, licensing and interactive audio for games. The course also examines current tools and the practical use of AI where it adds value to modern pipelines.

Minimum requirements
- A good degree (normally 2.2 or above) or significant professional experience in the creative arts/industries. Please refer to our Entry Requirements for additional international qualification equivalencies.
- Proof of English Language proficiency is required if English is not your first language, or you have not studied at Undergraduate level in English previously. BIMM University Berlin requires equivalent to Level B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Please reference our English language requirements webpage for further information.
- All applicants will be subject to a portfolio review and interview with a BIMM University Berlin Lecturer. Applicants with significant demonstrable experience in a related vocation, and who do not have an existing recognised undergraduate qualification, may be considered for Recognition of Prior Certified or Experiential Learning (RPCEL).
Our 12-month master’s course is divided into a winter, spring and summer trimester, each with a different focus. For part-time students, only one module is completed per trimester. Please note: module names and structure may be subject to change.

Graduates of the MA Music for Film, Games and Media will be equipped to work as composers, sound designers, music editors, and audio professionals across the screen and interactive entertainment industries.
The course provides the creative and technical grounding to succeed in both freelance and in-house roles, while also supporting those looking to launch their own production, scoring or post-production businesses. Graduates will be able to apply their skills across film, television, games, advertising, and immersive media environments.
As with all BIMM University Master’s qualifications, graduates can continue to study at doctoral level (such as a PhD) to progress in academic or research careers within music, media and the wider creative arts.
