Scholarships and Bursaries

BIMM is dedicated to helping musicians and songwriters develop their skills, talents and self confidence, while gaining a nationally recognised Further or Higher Education qualification. Every academic year, we’re able to offer a limited number of scholarships and bursaries to talented and dedicated applicants and students who are in financial hardship.

These are suitable for candidates on any level of course, however, ideally for those courses incurring fees.

BIMM Bursary

We’re pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to apply for a BIMM Bursary. It’s specifically for gifted and committed applicants who are struggling financially, and in order to be eligible, your household income must be below £25,000 per annum.

The BIMM Bursary will be for £1,500 for one year only and is awarded to six students at each BIMM college within the UK. If your application is successful, you’ll receive the money in three instalments at the beginning of each term.

The criteria in order to be considered are as follows. You must:

  • Be a UK or EU national
  • Be in financial hardship
  • Have good studentship (current students only)

There are a few steps involved in the application process and we’re happy to assist with any queries you may have along the way to ensure your form is completed easily and thoroughly.

ANDREA MARONGIU DRUMMING BURSARY

The Andrea Marongiu Bursary is for talented and dedicated drummers starting their first year of the BA (Hons) in Professional Musicianship degree, who are in financial hardship. There are two bursaries available to the value of £1,000 for each year of study at BIMM, for three years (totalling £3,000), for students from BIMM Brighton, BIMM London and BIMM Bristol (£6,000 total).

This bursary is presented in memory of Andrea Marongiu – the enormously gifted session drummer of British electronic/folk band Crystal Fighters who tragically passed away suddenly in 2014. Andrea was one of the most talented multi-disciplinary drummers at work in modern music. An incredibly versatile musician, he was one of the most highly sought-after session drummers in the industry.

Andrea’s wife, Louise Marongiu, set up a fundraising site in his memory in order to raise money which could be used to help young musicians, and BIMM is hugely honoured that Louise has kindly donated the funds to form two drumming bursaries for 2019/20 entrants. This award will build on Andrea’s legacy as a brilliant and creative drummer and is an enormously generous gift to enable the growth of a new generation of drummers.

In order to be considered, you must:

• Be a UK or EU national.
• Have a household income below £25,000 per annum.
• Have good studentship (if a current student) or a good academic reference.
• Hold an Unconditional/Firm place on a Drum degree at BIMM Brighton, Bristol or London (BA (Hons)/BMus).

If your application is successful, you’ll receive the monies at the beginning of each school year.
