Germany music hardware and software company, Ableton, made their way to BIMM Brighton on 25th April as part of the ‘Ableton Education Tour’ and getting to know our very talented Music Production students.
Ableton kitted out our BIMM East premises with a variety of MIDI controllers, and the day featured:
- A demonstration of how to create tracks from scratch with Ableton’s Push instrument
- A live Push performance featuring Alex Banks (Monkeytown Records)
- A mixing Masterclass with Sie Medway-Smith (Rudimental/UNKLE/Depeche Mode)
Students worked directly with Ableton certified trainers to gain a working knowledge of the equipment. The day was tailored to the curriculum and study needs of the students, with an emphasis on creativity and inspiration.
Music Production Course Leader, Matt Hodson, believes it’s important that students and music brands join forces: “Working directly with the company, students can gain an even larger understanding of how the software can be utilised to support their desires as music producers. Ableton is without a doubt a platform like no other in terms of its application to playing live, as well as studio integration.”
BIMM Brighton and BIMM London also run a Music Production Summer School powered by Ableton. Budding producers get to play with Ableton gear for five days while being guided by industry professionals to create their own music. Special guests visit each day to inspire and provide direct musical input, and the week ends with an amazing performance finale.
