Thinking about studying at BIMM University Berlin? You probably have a lot of questions, and that’s totally normal.

In collaboration with our fantastic admissions team, we have compiled a list of our frequently asked questions to help guide you through the application process. 

From housing and finance to visas and deadlines, have a look at what most applicants ask us.

Is there a deadline to apply?

Yes, the final application deadline is 26 August 2026. However, we recommend applying by the following dates, depending on your nationality and residential status:

  • 31 January for international applicants
  • 15 April for EU applicants
  • 17 June for German applicants

Please note: Applying early is strongly encouraged.

What does it cost to study at BU Berlin?

We don’t price our courses by semester. Instead, we price by each academic year, which comprises two 15-week semesters (three 15-week semesters for masters’ and fast-track degree students).

Please note: An early acceptance discount is available for international students outside the EU if they accept an offer before 15th June.

Is there a scholarship or funding support available?

BIMM University sometimes offers scholarships and bursaries to students through its partner network. Any currently available opportunities are listed on the fees and finance webpage. In addition, funding may be available for certain nationalities through national funding institutions or academic stipend programmes. What is the application like?

The initial application process takes 15-20 minutes, involving an online form and a short personal statement, alongside a declaration of your prior academic history and contact details. Once we receive your application, we’ll be in touch with you to arrange your portfolio submission and entrance interview for your chosen academic programme.

What academic requirements do I need to study at BU Berlin?

Do I need to complete an interview to get in?

Yes, all courses require an interview, and some information or examples from your portfolio also need to be submitted in advance. We have the criteria for interviews for all courses on our website. You’re welcome to review these and prepare ahead of applying here.

What languages do I need to speak?

All our courses are taught in English, requiring a level of B2 or higher on the CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). See our English requirements webpage for alternative English tests:

Where do I find housing?

We have a dedicated accommodation advice page which outlines different housing options, and the process of relocating to Berlin from your city or country of origin. Be sure to check the location of accommodation options and the practicalities of travelling to the campus, and try to visit your chosen provider in person (and bring a friend), to ensure you’re happy with the area it’s located in. If travelling to Berlin to do this is challenging, then using Google Street View or similar can help.

As an international applicant, will I need a visa to study?

Applicants who have a non-European nationality will likely require some form of visa to study. This depends on your nationality.

Is it safe to live in Berlin?

Yes, Berlin is like any other European capital. However, it is worth remembering that pickpocketing and petty theft can sometimes be a concern in busy areas like Mitte.
