Anna and each of the other four winners who were awarded the KRACH + GETÖSE Award received prize money of €1200. They will also be mentored for 12 months and receive guidance from industry professionals, clubs, festivals, studios, agencies and the arts funding body, Haspa Musik Stiftung, and much more! We talked to Anna about her win:

Anna Hirschgänger winning Hamburg Music Award

First of all: Congratulations on winning the KRACH + GETÖSE Hamburg Music Award – that’s amazing! What made you want to apply for the competition?

Thank you so much! My management brought KRACH+GETÖSE to my attention and when I looked into it, I thought that it sounded like a really cool opportunity. Especially the chance of a one-year mentorship and the partners involved with KRACH+GETÖSE such as the Reeperbahn Festival, MS Dockville, and the Molotow. To me, these were very strong arguments to apply for the award.

What was the application process like?

I can’t remember everything from the application process in detail since it was quite a long time ago, but I remember that it was relatively easy. You had to send in at least one released original song, press photos, and other press assets. You also had to list some of the milestones of your musical career, for example gigs you had played, important releases, and so on.

What was your highlight of the whole competition?

The award ceremony was really great! I met a lot of wonderful people that day and the evening was organised with a lot of love. There were some live acts playing and some interviews held on stage. Each of the five award winners was introduced with a little video teaser and a few words of praise from one or two of the jury members before being handed their award on stage. That was pretty special.

Winners of Hamburg Music Award

Besides the prize money, the winner also gets to record at Clouds Hill Recordings Studio, receives festival slots and much more – what are you most looking forward to?

I’m very much looking forward to getting some help regarding booking and getting to play some festival gigs and maybe even a support tour for some bigger artist. A dream would be to play at The Great Escape Festival which KRACH+GETÖSE has a partnership with. I’m also really excited about just having some extra people around me with special expertise to talk to for advice and guidance.

You also recently graduated from BIMM University. What are your plans after your studies?

I really want to keep concentrating on my music career and we have a lot of stuff planned already. In August, I am going to go on a tour through Germany called “Youngbloods-tour” with two other singer-songwriters and at the end of this year I am going to record my debut album which I am really excited about.

We’re certain that we’ll be hearing more from Anna in the not-too-distant future. Congratulations on your incredible award.
