An original track by BIMM London student Ida Kudo is being used as the runway music at the Vancouver Fashion Week show of UK fashion designers, Nadia and Zehra.
Originally from Copenhagen in Denmark, Ida is studying Music Production at BIMM London and often performs her electropop-styled music under the name DIA.
Twins Nadia and Zehra Mustafa graduated from Polimoda Fashion School in Florence in 2013 and draw inspiration from their heritage, using the style of Italian and Turkish national costumes as a base for their designs, but with a colourful twist that has been described as “Teletubbies on acid”.
Ida says: “It was a great match, we have a lot in common and I love their collection. The girls are so creative and it’s inspiring.”
Nadia and Zehra’s colourful quirky and outrageous collection references ethnic dress, so Ida began experimenting, and her finished track relies heavily on percussion such as castanets, African drums and tablas, to create a “rude but tribal” vibe.
Ida says she’s really happy with the finished version: “I understand what the girls are doing, and that plus the inspiration and joy from their collection is in the music. Luckily Nadia and Zehra were really happy about the music as well.”
Nadia and Zehra chose Ida’s track because they believe its mood, lyrics and beat perfectly complements their fashion. Nadia says: “Our fashion is fun, free and expressive. Ida’s style of music fits well as she’s very unique as an artist, just like us.”
The Nadia and Zehra Vancouver Fashion Week show is on Saturday 22nd March and is predicted to set tongues wagging across the city.
