Legendary radio and club DJ, Pete Tong has stormed straight to the top of the UK album charts with a little help from three of our very own BIMM tutors.

‘Classic House’, which had previously spent nine weeks in the top UK 40, features major orchestral re-workings of iconic house anthems and floor fillers from the past three decades, from Faithless to Fat Boy Slim via Moby.

For his latest project, the BBC Radio 1 veteran enlisted the help of the prestigious 65-piece Heritage Orchestra (UNKLE/DJ YODA). The orchestra features none other than BIMM teachers, Adam Betts (BIMM London / Drums) and Tim Smart (BIMM London / Trombone).

The result is absolutely breathtaking and a true credit to Adam, Matt, Tim and John’s skill as musicians – we’re still getting goosebumps from hearing a classical reworking of Orbital’s ‘Belfast’.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, the pioneering superstar DJ took the opportunity to congratulate the team behind ‘Classics’, including famed composer Jules Buckley.

He said: “This project has been such a thrill from the moment we stepped on stage at The Royal Albert Hall. Congratulations and deep thanks to the whole team “Classics”. I’m very proud to see these legendary dance tunes at Number 1!”

Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra first debuted their labour of love to the house genre at the Royal Albert Hall, during the 2015 BBC Proms. The ‘Ibiza Prom’ proved a monumental success and later led to several sold out arena shows, including the O2 London. The DJ later announced plans to release Classic House as an album – a stroke of genius when you consider the album has beaten both Mike Oldfield and the La La Land soundtrack to claim the top spot.

Later this year, Adam, Matt, Tim and the rest of the Heritage Orchestra will join Pete on a highly-anticipated arena tour of the UK. The tour will kick off at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on Tuesday 12 December, with further shows at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro, the Manchester Arena and two nights at The O2 in London.

We’re incredibly proud of Adam, Matt and Tim and would like to congratulate them, along with Pete Tong and the rest of the Heritage Orchestra, in making it to No.1 – an incredible achievement that will no doubt inspire and excite all of our BIMM students.

House Classics is out now and available to stream and download on Spotify, Amazon Music, or iTunes.
