Our industry-led course allows you to design and realise your own bespoke educational experience. Through your mentor, an industry expert who will be aligned to your industry specialism, you will gain invaluable insight into the film, screen and television industries.
This MA supports individual development as well as collaborative practice. You will have access to all the latest industry level production sets, studios, technology and resources to bring your projects to life.
Opportunities exist to collaborate with fellow students from other creative disciplines such as music, acting and video games.
Whether you want to write, direct, produce, shoot or edit you will be able to develop micro-projects, such as trailers and pitches to gain insight into your research project and its outcomes.
This course is validated by BIMM University and taught at BIMM University Berlin. Upon successful completion, students receive a Masters Degree from BIMM University.
The MA in Screen and Film Production allows you to utilise our innovative personalised curriculum, deciding upon a specialism and putting that skill into focus. The areas of practice-based research are wide and bespoke to you but are illustrated by the following examples:
Producer who wishes to specialise in developing distribution pathways for a feature film.
Sound Designer who wants to refine their craft and specialise in foley.
Director of Photography who wishes to develop their specialism in filming in natural light.
Director who wants to develop their skills in drama reconstruction within the context of documentary.
Screenwriter who wishes to develop a project to move onto the greenlight phase of production.
Production Designer who wants to develop their practical and creative skills for film and television.
Editor who wishes to develop post-production skills in editing drama.
A visit to a major Film Festival will broaden your view of our industry. There is a €1000 (full-time study) or €500 (part-time study) discount for BIMM University alumni. a €500 kickstart fund towards your final major project and support in raising additional funds.
Industry engagement is embedded into your MA course: there will be opportunities for work experience through our wide range of highly reputable industry partners.
All MA Screen and Film Production students will graduate with a major screen & film project demonstrating their specialism, a network of industry professionals and a sound understanding of how to navigate the film and screen industry to build a successful and sustainable career.

Minimum Requirements
An undergraduate degree (normally 2.2 equivalent or above) or significant experience in a relevant vocation. Please reference the Entry Requirements webpage for additional international qualification equivalencies.
Proof of English Language proficiency is required if English is not your first language, or you have not studied at Undergraduate level in English previously. BIMM University Berlin requires equivalent to Level B2 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Please reference our English language requirements webpage for further information.
All applicants will be subject to a portfolio review and interview with a BIMM University Berlin Lecturer. Applicants with significant demonstrable experience in a related vocation, and who do not have an existing recognised undergraduate qualification, may be considered for Recognition of Prior Certified or Experiential Learning (RPCEL).

This module will allow you to explore the convergence of theory and practice in your chosen specialist area. Through research-based learning, you will develop an in-depth understanding of your chosen pathway and throughout the module develop the skills to apply a critical and theoretical lens in which to view your chosen area of screen and film specialism.
To support your development of research and practice this module encompasses research training and 1-2-1 tuition/mentoring. The skills and experience gained through the module provide a starting point for the Major Project.
In this module you will utilize your research and development from the Research for Practice module and begin to refine your ideas/specialism/project into the developmental stage of the production process. Within the module you will develop your pathway whether it is an Editor, a Director of Photography, Director, Sound Designer, Production Designer, Screenwriter or Producer. Through experimentation, developing new techniques and ideas, you will begin to understand how you want to develop as a practitioner.
Throughout this module, you will work closely with your mentor who will support you to develop an approach in which to showcase your ideas. You will be encouraged to explore, innovate and experiment. This could be showcased within a pitch, concept showcase, audio piece, screenplay, film treatment, micro-short film, or pilot, depending on your chosen specialism.
This module will allow you to dig deep into your specialist practice utilizing the research, experimentation and development that you have undertaken in your Practice Development module. Throughout this module, you will be encouraged and supported to develop and refine your idea.
Through further practice-based research, idea consolidation, refinement of practice and reflection on your specialism it will support you to move your project onto the next stage. Working with your mentor you will have developed the groundwork for realizing your idea or project in the Major Screen & Film Project module.
This module utilises the collaborative practice that is intrinsic to screen and film production. Within this module, you will be invited to work collaboratively with peers, industry contacts and external stakeholders to work together on a collaborative outcome.
The culmination of this module can be realised in a number of different outcomes including screenings, films, audio pieces or exhibitions.
This module provides you with the opportunity to produce an extended piece of work that explores your chosen specialist pathway. The research practice and development that you have engaged with in the previous modules will support you in realising your major graduation piece. Throughout the module, you will be individually supervised by your mentor
