BIMM Berlin Launches East Side Music Days Scholarship

3 July, 2015

UPDATE: Applications for this scholarship are now closed, please see our other scholarships & bursaries.

We’re very excited to announce a brand new scholarship here at BIMM Berlin called the ‘East Side Music Days Scholarship’.

It’s brought to you in conjunction with East Side Music Days – the free-of-charge Berlin street music festival which will be occurring between Postbahnhof and Oberbaumbrücke on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August this year.

The festival brings together an array of the best, most bizarre, most entertaining and most surprising performances and artists, all who play acoustically (without electricity) to a captivated crowd of onlookers. Musicians of all types can apply to take part as long as they’re unplugged, and last year’s event saw around 100 artists perform for a total audience of more than 20,000 across the two days as part of Berlin Music Week, on the streets of Berlin, alongside the Berlin Wall, and on the main stage at the Spree River.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants need to be registered and chosen as a performer at the event. The successful scholarship recipient will get their course fees paid for the full three years of their degree, which is worth €7,450 per year or a total of €22,350 across three years. This scholarship is just another example of the ongoing commitment by both BIMM and our industry partners in supporting talented music students from all different types of backgrounds.

On top of this, a substantial number of music industry professionals will be invited to watch the performances at East Side Music Days, eager to discover the next big thing, so it could well be a life-changing career move in every sense of the word… just like last year’s success story – the band Jonah, who played and were promptly hired for a huge ad campaign.

In addition, all acts will receive a goodie bag containing loads of items that make life as a musician much easier.

So… what have you got to lose?

To sign up to perform at East Side Music Days, register with East Side Music Days before Tuesday 30th June and send in your audio samples or a link to a YouTube video.

A special jury will then pick their favourite entrants to play on the main stage or at one of the mobile spots along Berlin’s East Side Gallery.

Musicians who are chosen to perform can then apply for the BIMM Berlin ‘East Side Music Days Scholarship’ by visiting our scholarships page here.

Applicants are free to study either the BA (Hons) in Creative Musicianship or the BA (Hons) in Songwriting, but will need to meet the college’s list of entry criteria for that particular course (shown online), and must be aware that the scholarship costs do not include living expenses.

Good luck with your applications – we hope you have success in this truly life-changing opportunity.
