Ableton Short Courses

We are offering you our Ableton short courses. With these, you’ll start your journey to matching the skills of the industry’s innovative music professionals. Hosted by Ableton Certified Trainer and BIMM Hamburg Music Production Lecturer Stefan Feuerhake, you’ll learn how to program drums and basslines, discover innovative ways of working with loops, explore how best to present your music, and lots more.

Webinar Series

In addition to this – and to give you a taste of our ground-breaking new courses – we are offering you a free of charge, three-part Webinar series hosted by our BIMM University Berlin Music Production lecturers, and industry special guests. Jane Arnison, Head of Music Production at BIMM University Berlin will be hosting the sessions, guiding you through the process and on hand to help you decide which degree is best for you. On top of this, you will meet Berghain Resident DJ Steffi and learn from Ableton Certified Trainers and BIMM University Berlin lecturers Noah Pred and Sjoerd van der Sanden. You’ll also get studio recording tips and tricks from Grammy Award-winning Producer and BIMM Berlin Lecturer Pete Smith and successful musician Jane Arnison.

Ableton Short Courses

DJing, Live Performance and Mash-Ups

Date: August 22, 2020, 3:00pm – 4:30pm (CEST)

Location: Zoom

This workshop is about bringing your music to the stage. We will look deeper into Ableton Live and the different ways to perform as a DJ or live act. We will learn about triggering effects with dummy clips and how to build a cool audio effect rack for DJing. At the end of the short course, we will put together our own mash-up using only already-released music.

And to ensure that your new skills stick, there is time to try everything out for yourself. Every participant will get to use one of BIMM Hamburg’s state of the art workstations, complete with an iMac, MIDI Keyboard, audio interface and headphones.

Loops, Samples and Self-Recorded Audio

Date: July 18, 2020, 3:00pm – 4:30pm (CEST)

Location: Zoom

This workshop is about finding new and creative ways of working with loops while slicing, editing, and rearranging them. We will guide you through sampling and samplers and how best to use them. At the end of the short course, we will record, edit, and process our own samples using a microphone and a field recorder.

And to ensure that the topics you’ve learned stick, there is time to try everything out for yourself. Each participant will get a workstation with an iMac, MIDI Keyboard, audio interface and headphones.

Three-Part Webinar Series: An Insight Into Music Production And Our Courses

Webinar 1: Electronic and Sound Production: Which Course Is Best For You? With Special Guest Berghain Resident DJ Steffi

As usual, we are bringing the music industry directly to you. Jane will be joined by special guest Steffi, celebrated Berghain DJ, producer and label owner. Steffi certainly has her finger on the pulse when it comes to the electronic music scene in Berlin and Europe, so get your questions ready!

Webinar Three: Studio Recording Tips With Grammy Award-Winning Studio Engineer Pete Smith

Join us for the final webinar of our three-part series, where we’ll introduce you to the new Music Production courses offered at BIMM University Berlin and BIMM University Berlin Hamburg.

We finish with a bang by welcoming our ever-popular Studio Engineering lecturer and all-round larrikin Pete Smith. Grammy Award winner Pete has a rich history, recording legendary artists from The Police to the Strokes since the 80s and continuing today. Pete and Jane present a webinar that offers the studio recording tips and tricks they’ve learned from their many years of experience in the world’s best studio environments.
