What to expect
Our bachelor’s and CertHE courses in gaming and creative technologies are designed to train future innovators and game-makers. Each course focuses on a different aspect of the industry:
- BA (Hons) Games Art and Technology gives students in-depth knowledge of the art development process, exploring aspects such as environment and character design alongside technical art skills.
- BA (Hons) Games Design and Development builds students’ understanding of players’ motivations and in-game interactions, with a focus on structure and narrative.
- BA (Hons) Animation is an interdisciplinary programme designed to prepare students for careers in the animation, games, and film industries. The course integrates both traditional and cutting-edge techniques, emphasising real-time 2D and 3D visual technologies.
- CertHE Creative Technologies – Games Art and Technology offers you the opportunity to learn the industry standard software for creating characters, environments and assets to develop a strong portfolio and is the equivalent of the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
- CertHE Creative Technologies – Games Design and Development offers you the opportunity to learn industry-standard software for creating characters, environments, and assets, enabling you to develop a strong portfolio.

During the first year of each of our courses, you will develop the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for your games industry specialism. They’ll give you a strong foundation of theoretical understanding and practical skills that you’ll use throughout your studies and into your professional career.
Then, from your second year, you’ll continually apply and practise all you’ve learned in your first year. With a “play first” teaching style at the core of each course, you’ll learn by experimenting, iterating and exploring, all while developing a skillset that’ll make you stand out.
As part of our creative community, you’ll also have opportunities to collaborate with students from our music, filmmaking and acting degrees, allowing you to apply your skills in new and unique ways.
Faculty
Dr Enrique Perez is a game developer and researcher with 15+ years’ experience in game design and gamification. As Head of School: Creative Technology at BIMM University Berlin, he focuses on creating an inclusive, supportive environment for students and staff.
Kerstin is a game designer and programmer based in Berlin. Co-founder of Twisted Ramble Games, she creates narrative-led games on meaningful themes and teaches game development at universities and workshops.
Mischa Wasmuth is a Full Stack Developer with 10+ years in games and VR, known for the HUXLEY VR Escape Rooms. He teaches using expertise in AI, Unity, and Unreal.
Facilities
As a student from our Creative Technologies faculty, you’ll have access to the same software and hardware the industry uses today.
You’ll work with games engines like Unity and Unreal and experiment in programmes like Maya, ZBrush and Substance – all on specialist gaming PCs.
Your lecturers

With their wealth of expertise and a vast network of connections within the international gaming industry, they’ll give you the skills, knowledge and mindset demanded by the industry globally.
Nathalie Lawhead is a game designer and experimental developer known for blending early web aesthetics with interactive art, creating acclaimed projects that explore glitches, digital culture and games as art.
Jody Gannon is a Berlin-based animation director, consultant and educator with extensive experience in classical feature animation. Founder of Big B Animation, he has led major European film and TV projects.
Giorgio Chiappa is a Berlin-based researcher and educator exploring the intersection of narratology, video games and urbanism. His interdisciplinary background spans literary, theatre and game studies.
Aina is a Berlin-based freelance artist working across games, board games and animation. Known for immersive worlds and distinctive characters, she also teaches at art schools, championing storytelling and individuality.
Kevin is a game designer with 15 years’ experience, now a freelance educator and developer. He explores different forms of play across video, board and live-action games, with a strong focus on learning through practice.
Ivonne is a narrative designer and writer with 20+ years’ experience across games and related media. She has led award-winning projects and teaches practical methods for aligning story and gameplay.
Masterclasses
Our masterclasses put you in the room with the game industry’s most exciting leaders and innovators.
Covering topics such as motion capture, games marketing and AI, our masterclass guests will give you insights that build and expand on what you learn in the classroom.

As a student with us, you have access to expert guidance from our Careers Team. With a wealth of contacts at their fingertips, they build relationships with organisations and projects you won’t find anywhere else.
You’ll also have access to Handshake, which you can use to contact the Creative Futures careers team, sign up for events and workshops, book careers tutorials, access resources, apply for work experience placements and jobs and of course, connect directly with employers.
Projects
The creative industries are built on collaboration. As a student on one of our Creative Technologies courses, you’ll get to work with students from across music, filmmaking and acting – and build your creative network during the process.
Whether you’re creating a virtual sci-fi setting for a music video, having actors voice your characters, or creating a video game inspired by a filmmaker’s short film, there are endless possibilities to work across the creative disciplines.
