Island Records Glenn Cooper talks to Journalism students


BIMM Brighton’s Music Journalism students were treated to a Masterclass on Marketing and Promotion thanks to Senior Marketing Director Glenn Cooper at Island Records – the legendary label founded in 1959 by Chris Blackwell and Graeme Goodall.

It’s home to artists like Florence + The Machine, Disclosure, Hozier, The Weeknd, Brits Critics’ Choice 2015 winner Jack Garratt and music icons Bob Marley, Grace Jones, and Annie Lennox.

Glenn works in close collaboration with Island’s marketing managers and Head of Marketing to ensure that they are across all of the latest digital and social marketing platforms. During the session he shared his knowledge with our students, discussing promoting a ‘brand’ through social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and the class was keen to hear about the promotion and marketing of The Brits’ ‘Best British Breakthrough’ Act Catfish and the Bottlemen’s album, as well as music giant U2’s latest release.

“I really enjoyed coming in to present to the Music Journalism students. They were a great group with a good grasp of the industry and threw up a few challenging questions.”
