Tutor News

The staff at BIMM both ‘teach’ and ‘do’, and our sound expert Zoe Martin is a great example.

Not only does she share her considerable skills as Head of Live Sound at BIMM Brighton, but she also works on the road with touring bands as their trusty Live Sound Engineer. Last year Zoe was nominated for a Pro Sound Award in recognition of her amazing work during ten years of working in sound.

Right now Zoe is part way though an enviable three-week journey around New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, on tour with the legendary UB40 (featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey). It’s a very cool name to feature on Zoe’s CV, which also includes Maverick Sabre, Bonobo, James Arthur, Ratatat and the Radiophonic Workshop.

Of course we should also mention that one of Zoe’s earliest touring gigs was back in 2007 with Dead Kids, the dark party band of Kieron Pepper (Prodigy)!

We caught up with her to see how her current tour with UB40 (feat. Ali Campbell, Astro & Mickey) is going:

“I’ve been very lucky and travelled to a lot of amazing places in the world. This tour is going well and I’m very much enjoying the New Zealand sun! When we first arrived here we were invited to a traditional Maori welcome ceremony, which was held in the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. That was pretty cool! Another highlight was the venue we played at last night, The Bowl Of Brooklands in New Plymouth. It was the most beautiful venue, with the stage directly in front of a lake.”

We’re looking forward to more travel tales when she returns. See you back in Brighton Zoe…!
